WHO

WE ARE

Mechanika is owned by two mechanical engineers, Jaco Lindeboom and Schalk Prinsloo. Our combined applicable experience is in excess of 40 years.

We have both recently completed construction projects. Schalk was the Recovery Project Manager, contracted through EPCM Global, for Tshipi e Ntle Manganese Mine for the completion and commissioning of the Primary Crushing Circuit and Balance-of-Plant. This project has been completed and the plant is in production. Tshipi e Ntle Manganese Mine has subsequently appointed EPCM Global as Owner’s Representative for the management of a feasibility study and concept & basic design for the optimal secondary crushing and screening circuit. Schalk is appointed as the Technical Manager within the Owner’s Team. The study is executed by DRA Projects SA.

Jaco has transitioned from the Construction Manager of the Sandvik contract of the Sasol Mining (Pty) Ltd Shondoni Mine Materials Handling project in Secunda to the Commissioning Manager for the same project. Jaco is contracted through Sandvik Mining for this project
In addition to our fabrication and construction experience in the Bulk materials handling and Mining industries we also have extensive design and manufacturing experience in the Defence and Aerospace, Petro-chemical and Nuclear industries. We have experience in the design and development of First-Of-A-Kind (FOAK) electro-mechanical and composite material products and systems, as well as the management of these projects. Our experience with FOAK design projects enables us to add value to the process and to ensure a quality product. Our team of skilled technical specialists and graphic- and industrial designers, will address form, fit and function of your project.

General consulting services include engineering problem solving, project feasibility investigations, new product development assessments and a general mechanical engineering advisory service. Mechanika provides these services across Sub-Saharan Africa and will travel to remote sites should it be required.

SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA PROJECT DEVELOPMENT SERVICE

Mechanika assisted Enviro-One in the development of a project proposal on behalf of a client and the client’s client in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Project requirements were ascertained during a week-long site visit. Upon return to South Africa Enviro-One and Mechanika drafted the project proposal and submitted on behalf of our client. The proposal was accepted by our client’s client and work has commenced. If need be, Mechanika and Enviro-One can also provide ongoing managerial support and technical expertise to such projects.

PRODUCT & COMPONENT RE-ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING

Mechanika has the ability and experience to re-engineer and manufacture obsolete and hard-to-procure products and components for critical systems. This has been done for a number of clients.

MOISTURE ANALYSERS WITH GPS MAPPING

Mechanika has developed and is providing GPS enabled handheld moisture analysers to Eskom and Roshcon for mapping and management of the power station coal stockpiles. The operator measures moisture at various positions on the coal stockpile. The data is uploaded to a personal computer and the custom developed mapping software creates a digital map of all the measurement positions and data on a satellite image of the area. This enables more effective management of the coal stockpiles.

ON-SITE CONVEYOR BELT STORAGE SYSTEM AT TREKKOPJE MINE, NAMIBIA

Mechanika designed, fabricated and commissioned an on-site conveyor belt storage system for Sandvik for use at the Trekkopje project site in Namibia. The purpose of the system was to enable site personnel to roll and unroll 20ton conveyor belt rolls prior to installation.

COMPOSITE MATERIAL MACHINE COVERS AND SAFETY GUARDS

Mechanika manufactures Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic covers for use on equipment were corrosion resistance and weight saving is of paramount importance. Manufacturers of underground mining equipment such as continuous miners, loaders and drill rigs, have been successfully using GFRP (Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic) cover panels for these types of applications for many years. Traditionally, thick steel plate was used for these cover panels. Steel corrodes, is very heavy, making maintenance difficult and has considerable scrap value. GFRP cover panels are 50-65% lighter for equivalent strength panels, has zero scrap or energy value and is corrosion resistant, making it ideally suited for a wet, corrosive environment such as mining.

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT

CutShop, a division of Mechanika, provides medium to large fabricators and project houses with an On-demand, On-site metal processing capability. Processing options range from plate work such as gussets and stiffener plates to general column and beam processing such as slotting, holes and coping. The processing solutions are based on plasma cutting technology and is custom designed for each project.

This On-demand, On-site processing service enables our clients to increase their processing capacity and throughput almost overnight without having to invest in costly capital equipment that they may not have a need for once the project is complete. The client also does not have the added challenge of sourcing and employing skilled machine operators for a machine that may be standing idle in a month or two’s time.

The provision of customised machines, matched with highly skilled operators (both in operating as well as fault finding), in order to support production with the minimum setup time. CutShop makes use of industrial grade, locally assembled and customised plasma technology with all the associated advantages of excellent product support, good spares holding and fast turn-around times for breakdowns and consumable supply. CutShop provides robust equipment that survives the harsh fabrication shop and/or project site environment and we support the equipment 24/7. Outside of South Africa equipment support is done within the constraints of location and logistics.

We can go the extra mile.

CutShop can provide this On-demand service at our premises but generally we have found that clients prefer having the processing solution in their fabrication shops or at their project site - in other words, both On-Demand and On-Site. This minimizes the costs associated with transport and double handling of material and substantially speeds up project delivery.

Thus we strive to have the client’s specific processing solution installed, commissioned and fully operational within 10 working days after receipt of an official order, depending on the level of customisation required.

This service is available anywhere in Sub Saharan Africa provided a truck carrying a standard shipping container can reach the processing site. This containerized fabrication/processing solution can further be branded according to client requirements. This processing solution will also be provided with a CutShop trained operator for the duration of the contract.

We are confident that we can add substantial value to our clients’ businesses through lowering processing costs, speeding up project delivery and improving on fabrication process consistency and quality.
